One 11K Zone Plus Two 9.5K Zones — Completely Hidden 3 Zone Comfort

This 3 zone Thin-Air system hides an 11,000 BTU air handler above your largest space and 9,500 BTU handlers above two smaller ones — up to 1,500 square feet total (550 + 475 + 475) from a single outdoor condenser. Nothing shows in the rooms but discreet supply and return grilles, so the system reads as built-in central air. Each zone runs independently with its own thermostat and wired or wireless control.

Three pre-charged R454B linesets ship in the box with hand-tight quick-connect fittings, so the refrigerant circuit stays sealed — no vacuum pump, no manifold gauges, no EPA Section 608 license. Rated 22 SEER2 with heating down to -13°F and 39 dB operation per unit. The condenser is rated 27,000 BTU/h with 30,000 BTU/h of indoor capacity connected, and every handler includes an integrated condensate pump.

Why You'll Love It

  • Invisible in Every RoomAll three slim handlers hide above the ceiling, in a soffit, or in a closet. Only the grilles are visible, which suits historic renovations and finished interiors.
  • Sized for Unequal SpacesAn 11,000 BTU zone for the largest area plus two 9,500 BTU zones for smaller rooms — and each handler can feed two or three nearby registers.
  • Ultra-Quiet OperationAround 39 dB per unit, and because the handler sits outside the room, what you hear is air movement at the grille rather than a fan on the wall.
  • Sealed Refrigerant CircuitThree pre-charged linesets with quick-connect fittings mean no vacuum pump, no gauges, and no EPA license for the refrigerant side of the job.
  • 5-Year Warranty ProtectionZone Air backs all three handlers and the condenser with a 5-year parts and 7-year compressor warranty, plus 30-day returns on uninstalled systems.

What Makes It Different

Concealed ducted systems are normally the most contractor-dependent option, because the refrigerant work, the ductwork, and the ceiling access all land in one job. Zone Air removes the refrigerant half.

  • Three Pre-Charged LinesetsEvery line run arrives factory-sealed with R454B inside. Connect each handler by hand, torque to spec, and check the joints — the circuit never opens.
  • Mixed Handler SizesAn 11K handler and two 9.5K handlers share one condenser, so each area gets capacity suited to it rather than a single compromise size.
  • Adjustable Static PressureEach handler runs 0.1–0.4" WG with duct runs up to 15 feet per supply, so short runs can be tuned to the layout you actually have.

How It Works

  1. Place Three HandlersLocate each slim handler above the ceiling, in a soffit, or in a closet, with service access for filters, and plan short duct runs to the supply grilles.
  2. Duct, Connect, and CheckRun the short supply and return ducts, route each pre-charged lineset back to the condenser, hand-thread the couplings, and torque to spec.
  3. Power, Drain, and PairWire the outdoor unit to a dedicated 230V circuit (a licensed electrician is recommended for the disconnect), route condensate from each built-in pump, then set up wired or wireless control per zone.

Who It's For

This 9.5K + 9.5K + 11K concealed system is for:

  • Luxury homes and historic renovations where no equipment should be visible
  • One larger main area plus two smaller rooms, each needing its own thermostat
  • Layouts with ceiling, soffit, or closet space for a slim handler and short duct runs
  • DIYers comfortable with the most involved Zone Air install in exchange for a fully hidden result

Two larger areas instead of one? The 3 zone 31.5K concealed system moves a second zone up to 550 sq ft.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where do the three air handlers go if nothing shows in the rooms?

Each slim handler hides above the ceiling, inside a soffit, or in a closet, and short duct runs carry air to discreet supply grilles. Only the grille shows in each room, so all three zones look built-in.

How much area does each zone cover?

The 11,000 BTU handler conditions up to 550 sq ft and the two 9,500 BTU handlers cover up to 475 sq ft each, for up to 1,500 sq ft total. Each unit can feed short runs to two or three registers within its zone.

How can a 27,000 BTU condenser support 30,000 BTU of indoor units?

The outdoor unit is rated 27,000 BTU/h while 30,000 BTU/h of indoor capacity is connected — a standard multi-zone ratio, since three zones rarely peak together. The inverter compressor shifts output to whichever zones are calling.

How long can the duct runs be?

Each handler runs at 0.1–0.4" WG external static pressure with duct runs up to 15 feet per supply, which suits short runs from a ceiling or soffit location to nearby grilles.

Do I need an HVAC license to install a concealed 3 zone system?

No. All three pre-charged R454B linesets use hand-tight quick-connect fittings, so the refrigerant circuit stays sealed — no vacuum pump, gauges, or EPA 608 certification. You mount the hidden handlers and short duct runs; a licensed electrician is recommended for the 230V disconnect.
