Love it!
Rachel M. • (July 5, 2026)

I put a Zone Air 9k DIY unit in my office. It's about 300 square feet, gets a lot of sun. The 9k unit has been cooled this room down great. I didn't expect to work so easily. Quiet too. I’ve had it turned on during every Zoom call the past few weeks and co workers said they can’t even here it!

Excellent DIY mini split experience
Penelope H • (December 1, 2025)

Overall, I had a really good experience with this. The install was manageable, and the system has worked great.

Very impressed with this DIY mini split
Noah C • (March 17, 2025)

I did not expect it to feel this solid for a DIY setup. It has been smooth, quiet, and much stronger than I thought it would be.

Okay but unclear Instructions
Derek B. • (July 24, 2026)

The mini split itself works fine, but I wasn't impressed with the manual. The diagrams are small. Because of this I did the drain hose wrong the first time and water started to collect in the hose. Still happy with the purchase now that it’s finished.

Thanks Nate in customer support
Corey L. • (July 11, 2026)

Big thanks to Nate in customer service for helping me choose the 230 volt (power was already nearby) otherwise it would have been more work and more money. Overall it’s been great.

Super clean installation and great airflow
Alice P • (June 12, 2026)

The finished install looks good. Shipping was a little slow.

This mini split was a great investment
Connor B • (May 23, 2026)

This was a smart upgrade for my house. The comfort improvement was immediate, and it has been working well.

This mini split looks good and works great
Lucy X • (April 28, 2026)

It looks good on the wall and works exactly like I wanted. The airflow is strong, and the room cools evenly.

This mini split made a huge difference
Liam Q • (June 10, 2025)

The room used to be the one place in the house nobody wanted to sit in. Now it is actually one of the more comfortable spots.

Best upgrade I’ve made to my garage
Sophia L • (March 20, 2025)
Cools the room incredibly fast
Emma S • (March 1, 2025)

The first thing I noticed was how quickly the temperature changed. I can turn it on and feel the difference within a few minutes.

Professional-Grade Climate Control Without the Professional Installation Costs

A 9,000 BTU mini split system with a pre-charged line set delivers contractor-quality heating and cooling to your home while saving you $3,000–$5,000 in installation costs. This diy mini split from Zone Air is designed for homeowners who want professional comfort without paying professional prices — no HVAC licensing, no vacuum pumps, and no special tools beyond what's already in your garage.

Pre-charged line sets come with R-454B refrigerant for easy installation, keeping the refrigerant circuit factory-sealed from start to finish. That means you never handle refrigerant, and EPA Section 608 certification requirements don't apply. A 9,000 BTU unit cools spaces up to 450 sq ft (ideal for rooms in the 250–450 sq ft range), making it the right size for bedrooms, home offices, and small additions that need quiet, efficient climate control.

This model runs on a dedicated 208–230V circuit, which delivers steady high-voltage power for demanding duty cycles. If you don't already have a 208–230V line near the install location, an electrician may be needed to add one — but the refrigerant and mounting work is still pure DIY, and most people finish the install in a few hours, not days.

Why You'll Love It

  • Save Thousands on InstallationUsing pre-charged line sets can save $3,000–$5,000 on installation costs by eliminating contractor fees, vacuum pump equipment, and specialized refrigerant tools. You keep hundreds — or thousands — in your pocket.
  • Up to 24 SEER2 EfficiencySEER measures cooling system efficiency, and a higher SEER rating indicates better energy efficiency. At up to 24 SEER2, this 230V system dramatically outperforms traditional HVAC units. A mini split with a SEER rating of 20 is more efficient than 13 — this one pushes well beyond both. Mini-splits can save up to 30% on energy bills.
  • Cold Climate PerformanceReliable heating operation down to -13°F with Energy Star certification. Enhanced vapor injection technology maintains approximately 85% of rated heating capacity at 5°F, so your bedroom or office stays comfortable even in the harshest winters.
  • Smart WiFi ControlManage your temperature remotely through a smartphone app and voice assistants. Adjust settings from bed, the office, or across the house with complete flexibility.
  • 5-Year Warranty ProtectionZone Air backs this system with comprehensive coverage — 5-year parts and 7-year compressor warranty — plus 30-day returns for total security and peace of mind.

What Makes It Different

Most diy mini splits on the market still require professional refrigerant charging, vacuum procedures, or flaring tools — honestly, that defeats the purpose of "DIY." Zone Air ships a factory pre-charged R-454B line set with quick-connect fittings on every unit, so the refrigerant circuit never gets opened — no vacuum pump, no gauges, no refrigerant handling. Heats down to -13°F, with 115V plug-in options on the 9K and 12K and final assembly, testing, and inspection in the USA.

  • Pre-Charged Line Set TechnologyThe line set arrives factory-sealed with R-454B refrigerant. Connect the quick-connect fittings by hand, torque to spec, and the system is ready. No vacuum pump, no gauges, no HVAC license required. Pre-charged line sets eliminate the need for HVAC licensing entirely.
  • True DIY InstallationQuick-connect fittings, detailed step-by-step instructions, and video support mean this install is designed for homeowners, not technicians. Installation typically takes only a few hours to complete with basic tools — a drill, a wrench set, and a level will get you through it. The unit connects to a dedicated 208–230V circuit.
  • Cold Climate OptimizationUnlike standard mini split units that lose significant capacity below freezing, Zone Air's system uses enhanced vapor injection to sustain heating output at temperatures as low as -13°F. This is a purpose-built cold climate heat pump, not an air conditioner with a reversing valve bolted on.

How It Works

  1. Mount and ConnectInstall the indoor wall head on your wall and position the outdoor unit on a stable surface or mounting bracket. Route the pre-charged line set through a small wall penetration and connect both units using the quick-connect fittings. Testing connections with soapy water is mandatory to check for leaks before system activation. Proper torque and sealing are essential for leak prevention in connections.
  2. Power and ConfigureConnect the electrical wiring to a dedicated 208–230V circuit. If no 208–230V line is nearby, a licensed electrician may be needed to add one and to handle the electrical disconnect box for code compliance and safety. Once powered, configure WiFi settings through the smartphone app in minutes.
  3. Instant ComfortThe system immediately begins heating or cooling your space efficiently. Zoned heating and cooling reduces energy waste significantly — you control exactly where conditioned air goes, with no ductwork losses. DIY mini-split systems do not require expensive ductwork, saving you even more.

Who It's For

Ideal for:

  • Bedroom and home-office owners who want quiet, efficient comfort in a 250–450 sq ft room without calling a contractor for the whole job
  • Homeowners who already have — or can easily add — a dedicated 208–230V circuit and want maximum efficiency from a compact unit
  • Owners of small additions and bonus rooms that lack ductwork — this unit works efficiently without it
  • Cold climate residents who need reliable heat through freezing winters without tearing apart their house for ductwork modifications

If you want a comfortable room, efficient energy use, and the ability to install your own climate system in a single afternoon, this 9,000 BTU unit fits your needs. Mini-split systems have higher SEER ratings than traditional HVAC, and energy-efficient mini-splits may qualify for state and utility rebates (the federal 25C tax credit ended for systems placed in service after December 31, 2025). Mini-splits operate efficiently without ductwork, saving costs over time and across years of use.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need an HVAC license to install this?

No. Pre-charged line sets eliminate the need for HVAC licensing because the refrigerant circuit stays sealed throughout installation. You connect the fittings, torque them to spec, and the system is ready. No brazing, no vacuum pump, no certification required.

What kind of electrical does this 230V unit need?

This 9,000 BTU model runs on a dedicated 208–230V circuit. If you already have a 208–230V line near the install spot, hookup is straightforward. If not, an electrician may be needed to add the circuit — but all the refrigerant and mounting work remains a true DIY job.

How long does installation typically take?

Most people complete installation in 4–6 hours with basic tools — a drill, wrenches, and a level. Installation of pre-charged line sets takes only a few hours, and you don't need expensive specialty equipment. If you're familiar with hanging shelves and running a wire, you have the right tools and skills.

What size room will a 9,000 BTU unit handle?

This 9,000 BTU unit cools and heats spaces up to 450 sq ft, and performs best in rooms in the 250–450 sq ft range. That makes it an excellent match for bedrooms, home offices, and small additions that need quiet, efficient climate control.

Will this work in freezing temperatures?

Yes. This system is designed for reliable heating operation down to -13°F. Enhanced vapor injection technology ensures consistent heat output even when outdoor temperatures drop well below zero. At 5°F, the unit maintains approximately 85% of its rated capacity — far superior to standard splits that lose over half their output at the same temperature.

Does this qualify for tax credits or rebates?

Energy-efficient mini-splits can qualify for rebates and tax credits. With up to 24 SEER2 and Energy Star certification, this unit meets the efficiency thresholds that many state and utility rebate programs require (the federal 25C credit ended for systems placed in service after December 31, 2025). State and utility rebates may also apply depending on your zone — check local programs or email our team for help confirming eligibility.
